South Indian Premier League!

The best part about blogging is that one has the liberty to say the “UNSAYABLE”, the PAROCHIAL and the REGIONAL, which not only reflect the meanness of the blogger but also a nice opportunity to vent the blogger’s  pent up feelings of RESENTMENT.

So on the 18th of April, 2010 Chennai Super Kings and the Deccan Chargers have catapulted themselves to the 3rd and 2nd slots respectively, of the points table of the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE. Chennai Super Kings’ party could have been spoiled by the Kings Punjab team, even though Kings Punjab could not have made it to the final four even with a win. It was a delight to see the Jharkhandi Mahender Singh Dhoni take charge from the good work done by Raina and Badrinath.

Tamil Nadu needs a leader from outside the state of Tamil Nadu to perform. Politically if one sees the history of Tamil Nadu, MGR was a Malayali and Ms.Jayalalitha is considered to be a Kannadiga. Tamilians are not particular as to who leads them, so far as the directions are in Thamizh!! Dhoni has been talking a lot about the people of Chennai having tremendous love for him and that they talk to him in Thamizh too!

There are 2 Biharis who have captured the hearts of the Thamizian one is Udit Narain Jha and the other is Mahender Singh Dhoni (presently a Jharkhandi).

Deccan Chargers by any standards do not match up to the batting or the bowling line up of Delhi Dare Devils, yet since DELHI DARE DEVILS also depended on the last match to make it to the finals, this  match assumed the proportions of a knock out match. And Delhi lost.

So we have all the three southern teams and the team from Mumbai (which incidentally is politically ambivalent as to whether it belongs to the Northern part of India or otherwise!!). The allotment of teams had been such that 5 could be considered to be from Northern India and 3 from Southern India. Now statistically speaking there is only .25 probability that a Northern team could win the tournament. With the arrival of KOCHI in the IPL, there would be 4 southern teams and there is also a theoretical possibility from the next IPL that all the FINALISTS could be from the SOUTHERN India.

So to call this edition of IPL as South Indian Premier League 2010, sounds more appropriate!! Sorry Delhi guys, really sorry- after all Delhi is my capital too,  you see!!

MUMBAI TERRORISTS!

In the TV Channel HEADLINES TODAY, there was an eminent panel of Analysts which included 2 foreign INTELLIGENCE  ANALYSTS.  When  asked  whether  HOT PURSUIT  was  an option for  India,  they  said that on two grounds it was not advisable:-

1. That hot pursuit was successful when the host country was friendly, and

2. That it was a collective belief, of the Indian nation, that the terrorists came from a neighbouring nation and one had to have more concrete material to act upon such a premise.

In the INTERNATIONAL LAW, hot pursuit is allowed when the mischief-maker moves into alien territory subsequent to the mischief done by him. This provision is allowed, as the rights of the victim nation need not be deterred by niceties when they can apprehend the mischief maker, even when he had entered the alien territory.

INTERNATIONAL LAW IS MAN MADE like any other law, but that the precedents are not of great relevance. History may be of relevance, i repeat, but PRECEDENTS ARE NOT BINDING.

Therefore when  BUSH and BLAIR invent the WMDs based  on the  so called facts  submitted  by the CIA  chief,  and act upon it, a  third world country  which has  proof  is, international opinion-wise prevented from  launching  an attack to DECAPITATE the head of the terror outfit outside its territory!

We have to learn the un-highlighted part of HISTORY. We have to draw inspiration therefrom.

After the execution of Saddam Hussein,  the fact finding committee  finds out from the CIA chief that the intelligence inputs regarding the presence and manufacture of the WMDs was not factual. But by then it had become a fait-accompli.  Somebody owns up for the non-factual representation made, and he resigns and no further action against him is taken. To put it in simpler terms, the man who cooked the intelligence did give the so called proof (at that point in time) for the chief executive to act, in a way that he always wanted to. And to top it, after accomplishing the mission, he goes scot-free. The congress finds out that  he had furnished incorrect facts and thereby made the chief executive take a wrong decision!!

Cut back a few centuries, Warren Hastings and Dalhousie commit excesses in India, when the British Parliament finds that the public opinion was getting sticky, they call for the IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS against these Governors-General/Viceroy,  make a great forum for EDMUND BURKE and FOX to display their verbal skills and make vituperative speeches and then the  SOVEREIGN PARDON follows and the rogues are let free. No Indian gets to trouble those rogues in The Great Britain. They both lived happily everafter, with none to look down upon them.

IT IS EASIER TO GET PARDON THAN TO OBTAIN PERMISSION!

I HOPE, THAT WE LEARN THE LESSONS THAT HISTORY HAS TO OFFER, AND STRIKE THE ROOTS OF TERROR WHEREVER THEY BE, AND SUBSEQUENTLY FEEL SORRY- IF AT ALL WE HAVE TO. WHEN THE MEMORIES OF THE MUMBAI BLASTS ARE STILL FRESH, THE JUSTIFICATION WOULD BE HIGHER.

STATECRAFT IS HIGHER THAN INTERNATIONAL LAWS -WHICH ARE NOTHING BUT POST-FACTO FORMULATIONS TO DELAY AND DISSIPATE THE ANGER AND MERELY SETTLEMENT OF PAYMENTS. STATECRAFT IS ROOTED IN LIVES OF ITS CITIZENS, HONOUR AND SOVEREIGNTY.

YES WE CAN AND WE SHALL!!

NATIONALIZE METROS IN INDIA.

Metro in India could mean the tube or also the METROPOLITAN cities. I’m here wanting to blog on METROPOLITAN CITIES.

In the wake of the parochialism that is being spread thru SONS OF THE SOIL concept, it is time for the parliament to step in and decide the issue based on debate and making locals realize that neither them nor their forebears are responsible for the growth of the cities which are called METROS.

The metros that i am talking of are DELHI, MUMBAI, CHENNAI and KOLKATA. Delhi is the capital of the country and every Indian has the right to access and seek jobs there, buy property and make it his place of domicile.

Prior to India’s independence Bombay, Madras and Calcutta had found a place in the International map as CITIES of repute. One shud also include Lahore, Karachi and Dacca in that list. Therefore the three  cities, which are in today’s India, were not built into these huge METROPOLISES after the advent of the DIVISION OF STATES ON LINGUISTIC basis from the mid 50’s onwards.

MADRAS was appropriated by the then Madras state and Bombay by Maharashtra, but Calcutta was always with West Bengal. The composite culture that pervaded those two cities ie. Bombay and Madras have slowly been taken over by the local politicians and have infused a belief that merely because the respective cities are their state capitals, they shud be made the fief of the majority linguistic community of that state.

The malaise that we see today-in the form of violence- is nothing but a symptom of that belief, that had been allowed to creep into the consciousness of the locals and bandied about as a RIGHT. BOMBAY’s wealth is not merely the product of the labour of the locals. Even assuming that it is entirely their labour, if INDIA did not provide inter-state trade and the  CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT that no discriminatory taxes could be imposed by another state, where could  the BOMBAY FILM INDUSTRY have found  paying viewers? If such a right had not been constitutionally granted, where could the LUCAS-TVS sold all its automotive electrical parts manufactured around Madras?

IN EFFECT WHAT APPEARS IS THAT, EACH STATE IN INDIA WANTS ITS MANUFACTURED GOODS TO HAVE A GOOD MARKET IN THE FORM OF POPULOUS STATES, BUT IT DOES NOT WANT THOSE MARKET PROVIDING STATES’ LABOUR!!

How are we gonna create a NATION if we launch such parochial issues which assault the constitution of INDIA?

The only solution lies in the MODEL OF CHANDIGARH. Which is a UNION TERRITORY but the capital of Two states (Haryana & Punjab). After all, as already pointed out, let us nationalize MUMBAI and CHENNAI and make it the second and third cities which vest every INDIAN WITH THE RIGHT to work or stay without any over-riding rights by the locals.

I know it is too idealistic, but let each INDIAN start a soul-searching on these lines.
