The Great IPL Circus

Match fixing, drunken brawl & molestation. All three issues are pending at various levels. The interesting part is that each of the three issues mentioned appeared in the press in that chronological order. But the issue which is closest to CRICKET is MATCH FIXING, the other issues of SHAH RUKH KHAN making counter allegations of his daughter being treated rudely or the issue of a woman accusing an RCB player LUKE POMERSBACH of misbehaving with her ‘FIANCE” are all issues which are either twice or thrice removed from cricket, but have unfortunately overtaken the important issue.

If we ignore MATCH FIXING, it wouLd be better that we ALLOW the bookies auction the IPL trophy than have the players exhibit their skills.

I like that pouty lil kiddo called SIDDARTH MALLYA telling the media that THE WOMAN WAS ALL OVER HIM AND THAT SHE ASKED HIM FOR HIS BBM PIN, AND THEREFORE WAS BOT BEHAVING IN A MANNER BEFITTING A WOMAN ABOUT TO BECOME A WIFE! If there was any overt offer from any woman, it surely is because of his pedigree and the heirdom that is likely to befall (with all that KINGFISHER debts to settle!)  him and not because of his ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN INDIVIDUAL.  The POUTY kiddo, no doubt should take up for his “RCB FAMILY MEMBER’, but not by making such derogatory remarks on a woman.

Let us for a minute assume that she did not behave in a way worthy of a woman about to become a wife; yet that episode was between the POUTY KIDDO and HER, does that mean that she would have behaved in a similar  way with the RCB player LUKE? Not necessarily. LUKE is definitely no Becker or Tiger Woods! Assuming that the woman invited LUKE POMERSBACH to her room, does LUKE POMERSBACH  acquire a vested interest to molest the woman? No not at all.

For a minute i wouldn’t have any reader of my blog believe that i impute great innocence to the woman or Sahil Peerzada! But taking up for a man who beat up an occupant or the occupant’s fiance in his/her own room is unpardonable, especially  if there is no justifiable reason for the aggressor. Till now there is no counter allegation from LUKE POMERSBACH.

I like VIJAY MALLAYA’S mature answer that the incident was unfortunate and that they would co-operate with the authorities. Well said, that was all that was needed instead of mouthing nonsense like his brat son. A word of advice for the POUTY BRAT:A MANTLE IS DIFFERENT FROM A MAN! A MAN IS SELF-MADE, WHEREAS WHEN THE MANTLE FALLS ON SOMEONE HE WOULD MERELY BECOME AN INHERITOR, AND NOT A PIONEER! Grow up kiddo- don’t let a few chicks ( giving u the kicks) get to your green tongue.

Now coming back to our Shah Rukh Khan, he sure is a self-made man and deserves to be raptly heard, mostly for all those sober explanations which he mouths the day after the incident. We have sixteen cameras to capture cricket action, i suppose we should perpetually focus a couple of those on celebrities who appear in a choreographed manner with a batch of kindergarten kids to add innocence to their blood-shot drunken looks!

TRUTH surely seems to be a casualty in this episode, the morning after, the guard says nice things about SRK. A raise to the guard by his Security & Detective agency boss cannot be ruled out, nor can a good contract by Karan Johar around his project sites should not be ruled out. BUT BELIEVE YOU ME, THEY ARE UNCONNECTED.

Mr. Shukla says that BCCI’s ruling on SRK’s disqualification from entering Wankhede Stadium would be final (nobody went on appeal on the decision of the Bombay Cricket Assn. at the time of this statement! )- what he means is that : IF I OVER-RULE THAT DISQUALIFICATION, THEN SRK CAN ENTER- SO INFLUENCE ME!

Fraud by Ian Bell & Indians lacking the balls to enforce a FACT- all for endorsement goodwill

This morning i read a news item by Vijay Kumr Bobilli in THE TIMES OF INDIA (03/07/2011) and was not the least surprised that it was our Sachin Tendulkar who had put pressure on M S Dhoni to recall the batsman IAN BELL. Great. Sachin may be the greatest batsman India had ever seen and enjoys an enormous good will with the cricketing public, has a massive fan following and behaves decently on and off the field.

But why should he put pressure on MSD to recall Ian Bell?

To my mind, these are fall out of ENDORSEMENTS. Remember Tiger Woods, who when had to face allegations of gallivanting with all types of women and the unquenchable ire of Elin Nordegren, the first endorser to dump Tiger was the consulting firm ACCENTURE. Why? Tiger “WOULD lose his sheen and that should not spill over to the product endorsed by Tiger” , simple.

So, after all Trent Bridge is in England and we need new gestures of goodwill to find new markets and recruit new fans to our aging cricketers. So “FACTS” and “TRUTHS” could be given the short shrift and ‘go’ with the crowd ‘for’ the crowd. A kind of democracy in cricket.

From the footage specially recovered from the net to sustain my hypothesis, IAN BELL “assumed” that the ball had hit the boundary board. Should his mistaken belief deprive Indians an opportunity to enforce a rule? NAY. So appealed thrice and sustained by the Umpire, Bell is shown the door.

But the DRESSING ROOMS have their own dramas and machinations which brought back Ian Bell (lucky he added only 22 to his tally!). So whose VOICE turned the CRICKET MATCH INTO AN ENDORSEMENT GROUND? SACHIN TENDULKAR, that is what Vijay Kumar Bobilli says. I am very much inclined to believe that. Sachin may have a squeaky voice, but time has shown that he has been wise in getting neat packages in ENDORSEMENTS. Not that a squeaky voiced persons should not be wise- but a general presumption is there subliminally, that such people are not aggressive in pushing their point of view. Yet they could gently persuade a junior colleague, presently in command, to resile from his earlier decision. Indians have won the BRITISH hearts, but have lost the MATCH! That is the pith and marrow of that game.

Sachin, enjoy the good fortune in the staid pitches laid out by our groundsmen and organizers for your centuries, but SPARE INDIAN CRICKET from the rapacious and ruthless endorsement purveying advisers. THERE IS TOO MUCH OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN SACHIN’S CRICKET AND HIS ENDORSEMENTS FOR ME TO GIVE HIM THE BENEFIT OF DOUBT!

And if possible show some aggression in playing on difficult pitches! Good luck to u too.

South Indian Premier League!

The best part about blogging is that one has the liberty to say the “UNSAYABLE”, the PAROCHIAL and the REGIONAL, which not only reflect the meanness of the blogger but also a nice opportunity to vent the blogger’s  pent up feelings of RESENTMENT.

So on the 18th of April, 2010 Chennai Super Kings and the Deccan Chargers have catapulted themselves to the 3rd and 2nd slots respectively, of the points table of the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE. Chennai Super Kings’ party could have been spoiled by the Kings Punjab team, even though Kings Punjab could not have made it to the final four even with a win. It was a delight to see the Jharkhandi Mahender Singh Dhoni take charge from the good work done by Raina and Badrinath.

Tamil Nadu needs a leader from outside the state of Tamil Nadu to perform. Politically if one sees the history of Tamil Nadu, MGR was a Malayali and Ms.Jayalalitha is considered to be a Kannadiga. Tamilians are not particular as to who leads them, so far as the directions are in Thamizh!! Dhoni has been talking a lot about the people of Chennai having tremendous love for him and that they talk to him in Thamizh too!

There are 2 Biharis who have captured the hearts of the Thamizian one is Udit Narain Jha and the other is Mahender Singh Dhoni (presently a Jharkhandi).

Deccan Chargers by any standards do not match up to the batting or the bowling line up of Delhi Dare Devils, yet since DELHI DARE DEVILS also depended on the last match to make it to the finals, this  match assumed the proportions of a knock out match. And Delhi lost.

So we have all the three southern teams and the team from Mumbai (which incidentally is politically ambivalent as to whether it belongs to the Northern part of India or otherwise!!). The allotment of teams had been such that 5 could be considered to be from Northern India and 3 from Southern India. Now statistically speaking there is only .25 probability that a Northern team could win the tournament. With the arrival of KOCHI in the IPL, there would be 4 southern teams and there is also a theoretical possibility from the next IPL that all the FINALISTS could be from the SOUTHERN India.

So to call this edition of IPL as South Indian Premier League 2010, sounds more appropriate!! Sorry Delhi guys, really sorry- after all Delhi is my capital too,  you see!!
