He couldn’t FORNICATE–  that was his tragedy then.

After years, he meets the same woman with her husband.

Commits ADULTERY– that’s his tragedy NOW!

What he thought he  MISSED then,  now hangs like an ALBATROSS

round his neck!

When it all restarted he thought his PATIENCE  had paid.

Now he wonders, “Why of all the Gin joints in the world, she turns up at RICK’S?”

Hats off to Arnold Schwarzenegger, not for having fathered a child through his maid, but for having successfully kept it away from his wife Maria Shriver for a full decade. Maria did not suspect a thing till the fact became public. It became public,  simply because Mildred Baena got tired of maintaining the lie anymore.

Rogelio, the husband of Mildred Baena carried on with life under the grand belief that the child brought forth by Mildred was fathered by him. It is only of late that Rogelio was given to understand that he was merely a “PARENT” and not the “FATHER”.

As this blogger had maintained, there is nothing new about “affairs” between master-maid, doctor -nurse, manager-secretary, mistress-driver etc. etc., but how far do they CARRY THAT AFFAIR? In these days of condoms, MTP and other prophylactics, why do they let the pregnancy carry to term? Should we call the offspring, thus born, as LOVE CHILD and romanticize the idea?

In this case three persons have been offended. Maria Shriver for having “trusted” Arnold; Rogelio for having “trusted” Mildred and thirdly for having let the child believe that Rogelio was his father. Even assuming that Maria and Rogelio have let themselves to be tricked into such smug thoughts, the child, for no mistake of his, has started off with a belief which could be changed in due course leaving him traumatized!

To propagate an idea that one NEEDN’T HAVE TO FATHER TO BE A PARENT, like our Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is all great in a SOCIAL context. But at the personal level, if it comes to the FACT of fatherhood, it is the child’s INALIENABLE RIGHT to know who his/her BIOLOGICAL FATHER is/was. When, some adults to conceal their wayward ways start putting a lie on the lips of a child from the outset, they are committing grave INJUSTICE to a NEW SOUL.

Let us cut back, and go to the story of the LUST triangle of PADMA LAKSHMI, ADAM DELL and TED FORSTMANN, where even Padma Laksmi (ex-wife of Salman Rushdie) herself is confused about the ‘fatherhood’ of the child KRISHNA THEA. Padma wants to cut out her then husband’s name from her daughter Krishna Thea with the fervent “HOPE” that the child wasn’t fathered by Dell:

‘[Lakshmi] made clear to [Dell] her hope that Forstmann was the child’s biological father,’ according to the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

He claims this was the reason she refused to put his name on the birth certificate – ‘to minimize, if not eliminate [Dell’s] role in Krishna’s life and to install Forstmann as Krishna’s father.’

Arnold Schwarzenegger should pass off for a great actor or having a truly dumb wife, for having carried the lie for a full ten years. I have my doubts if he is a great actor on screen, but off-screen he seems to be one.

What i do not understand is, Mildred could have “worked on the staff” of Arnold, but why did they not scabbard it?

To the best of my understanding, which though not considerable, there is no provision in law to compel the Governor of the State or the President of India to  recognize a pre-poll alliance and thereby call the person most likely to command the majority of the house and offfer him/her the first opportunity to prove  majority in the House. However, we have followed a convention that the PRE-POLL ALLIANCES are RECOGNIZED and given much WEIGHT.

In the recently concluded elections for the State Assembly, there was a PRE-POLL ALLIANCE between AIADMK and DMDK (Vijayakanth’s party). Upon declarations of results it was found that AIADMK had enough numbers to form the government without the support of its PRE-POLL ALLIANCE partners. So, after the results, DMDK, by virtue of it having more MLAs than the DMK, decides to sit in the OPPOSITION and its Leader Vijayakanth is made the OPPOSITION LEADER. What a FARCE.

What is the idea of giving the OPPOSITION leader the status of CABINET MINISTER? Simple, in electoral politics the voice of the opposition- which has also got a minimum amount of seats- should not be allowed to go UNHEARD. That i think is the principle. If the PRE-POLL alliance partner of the WINNING SIDE sits as the OPPOSITION leader, how would the DEMOCRATIC SPIRIT be fulfilled with that arrangement?

This is not the first time that this has happened. But not framing RULES or LAWS on this point would be deleterious to DEMOCRACY! I hope our LEGISLATORS recognize this and take prompt action……………

REGENTS of Indian democracy!

The British ruled India with two administrative systems: British Provinces and
Indian "princely" states; about 60% of the territory of the Indian sub-continent were
provinces and 40% were princely states. Provinces were British territories directly administered by the colonial government of British India. Princely states were states with native rulers which had entered into treaty relations with the British.

If we let ourselves be convinced that after the adoption of our Constitution, there is a Federal structure which is decently demarcated and run on the basis of the domains mentioned in the SEVENTH SCHEDULE to the Constitution of India, we are truly deluding ourselves.

We as Indians, should be fully aware that the domain demarcation delineated in the VII Schedule to the constitution not merely marks the the Legislative Competence of the Central Legislature Parliament) and the State Legislatures, but the central and state governments’ powers are LIMITED by the same VII Schedule. However to maintain the UNITY and INTEGRITY of OUR NATION certain over-riding powers like Art. 356, and Residuary powers as per entry 97 of List I of the Constitution are vested with the Central Legislature.

The Governors are appointed by the President of India upon the recommendation of the Central government. When i see certain Governors, they behave like the former REGENTS appointed by the Viceroys and Governors General of India, i wonder if we are still ruled by the distant CROWN from London!! They take upon themselves the role of determining as to whether the state is functioning as per their “understanding” of the Constitution. When the centre is ruled by a party which is different from the State,  the Governor appointed to that state gets meticulous in his work and collects negative data about the working of the Government. When the  appointee governor is in a state ruled by the same party as the government ruling the centre, the Governors  conduct themselves in a formal and ceremonial manner.

I fail to understand this! The missionary zeal with which one of the Governors in India had recommended invoking Art. 356 in one state, is matchless. He made it seem as if,  all the burden of democracy in India stood on his lone shoulders!

Look at the neighbouring state, for the swearing in ceremony of the Chief Minister, he could not even show himself to be active and mentally agile. He kept quiet all these 5 years, after which the people of that state have given their resounding verdict! THAT IS DEMOCRACY. People should decide, that is DEMOCRACY- yet if there is a fissiparous tendency in the Government, timely action is to be taken, that is why Governors are placed there.

INDIA should not be allowed to have 2 sets of states , the ones which are CENTRAL PROVINCES- which are ruled by the same party as the Centre; and the others which are PRINCELY STATES which are ruled by the parties in opposition to the party ruling the centre. If that were to be the case, as it appears to this blogger, then the States ruled by the Opposition to the Party ruling the Centre, tend to BEGET GOVERNORS who act like the erstwhile REGENTS! (By the way, the REGENTS owed allegiance to the Crown to such an extent, that any report to the liking of the crown could be obtained by the Crown from the REGENT!!)

May the country be FEDERAL, as envisaged in our CONSTITUTION, and ruled as per the subjects allotted to each in the VII Schedule. After all, we did not acquire a landmass and divide that landmass into States, but as proclaimed in the 1st Article to the Constitution,

1. (1) India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.

we came together as the provinces and princely states and adopted our constitution.

STATES are fundamental- Culturally, historically and (since the division of the Southern and Western States) even LINGUISTICALLY. SO let us preserve the DISTINCTNESS of each state while PROMOTING INTEGRATION NATIONALLY.

Before reading this blog it is imperative to go through my blog dated 29/04/2011 to fully appreciate my point of view. The link is given below:

When i wrote my blog mentioned above, i had access to the post poll analysis conducted by THE HEADLINES TODAY! Which CATEGORICALLY stated that the DMK had caught up with the AIADMK. “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” That was the perceptive Benjamin Disraeli! How true, i had given my reasons as to why the predictions by HEADLINES TODAY would never come to pass.

There were at least a dozen of my friends who had asked me why I had to take sides where i COULD go wrong. My answer was simple: i wasn’t taking sides, in fact i couldn’t be bothered as to who ruled Thamizh Nadu, as i as an individual have to still give Rs 50/- to get my community certificate or get a certified copy of any public document from the registrar’s office. So things are not going to change for me, yet as an INDIVIDUAL empowered by the CONSTITUTION OF INDIA, i am at LIBERTY to express my opinion on another opinion. Only thing was that HEADLINES TODAY had bolstered their prejudiced/ half baked wishfulness through the instrument of STATISTICS.

I merely said that their interpretations were wrong for reasons enumerated in my earlier blog.

By hindsight, i stand VINDICATED. There was not merely a WAVE but a TSUNAMI.

Look at the figures 201/234 in Thamizh Nadu. 225/294 in West Bengal. If we work out the percentages AIADMK and its allies have taken 85.897% of the Assembly seats and in Bengal ( i hate the tag “WEST” in  BENGAL as the state is geographically located in the Eastern part of India and it is time we as self-respecting Indians call it Bengal- like PEPSU states became just PUNJAB and not EAST PUNJAB!) TMC and their allies have taken 76.53% seats in the Bengal assembly.  So the point is , what happened in Bengal is a WAVE and what happened in THAMIZH NADU is TSUNAMI!

Secondly, when you put a Thamizhan under a microscope, do not rule out the possibility that he is scrutinizing the OBSERVER through the very same lens through which the observer is observing! A Thamizhan knows the paid young boys and girls sent with a questionnaire to quiz his preferences and how the data thus collected is freely given to anyone willing to pay for it. More than anything else a THAMIZHAN is more apt to give you an answer you EXPECT him to give- not necessarily the TRUTH, all because he knows that TRUTH could be verified but OPINIONS are beyond another person’s verifiability. A Thamizhan is no idiot to give his answers for you to build up your credibility and bank balance! He knows why exactly you ask him those convoluted questions in repeatedly after asking some inane questions.

You may call it ORG, MARG, FARG, TARG for all he cares, yet he is not going to give his opinion unless he believes you and you give him an assurance that you VALUE his opinion. That is why the OPINIONSTERS miserably fail in Thamizh Nadu. Good luck to them in future.

The MEDIA seems to be angry that it has not been able to get the scale of the win right. However CNN-IBN  and one more TV channel predicted the win of Jayalalitha. They were closer to the TRUTH. Simply put, their interviewers built a rapport with the interviewee to get that far.

The winner in Thamizh Nadu is THE ELECTION COMMISSION of INDIA. The way they curbed the flow of cash, contained booth capturing and other activities deleterious to DEMOCRACY is truly commendable. If hooligans and hoodlums are allowed to control the election process,  DEMOCRACY dwindles to FEUDALISM. The bold decision to replace the DGP of Thamizh Nadu during elections not only showed who was in CONTROL but also sent a strong message to all and sundry about  the goings on in the state.

The meaning of SECRET BALLOT is fully fulfilled only in the state of THAMIZH NADU. The THAMIZH people have shown again that there is no need to show their hand to these marketing agencies which peddle the details collected as statistical “truths”!

  • There is an ANGLO INDIAN SCHOOL in Trichy (Thiruchirapalli @ Trichinopoly) in THAMIZH NADU by name CAMPION HIGH SCHOOL. Anglo Indian schools are minority institutions built for the benefit of the Anglo Indian community in India.

I had not the quaintest of idea as to what an ANGLO INDIAN school was. In Trichy there were atleast 2 other schools which were affiliated to this Board, ANGLO INDIAN BOARD. One was VESTRY SCHOOL and the other was St. JOSEPH’S  for girls. All within a radius of 2 kms. For boys CAMPION was considered to be the best. Consequently, my dad decided to put me in CAMPION. My father had been transferred from PALAYAMKOTTAI, a town in the district of Tirunelveli, from Southern Thamizh Nadu. Palayamkottai was considered my many as the OXFORD of the South. How they arrived at that is still a mystery to me. If cramming and Maths were the yardstick by which Educational standards were to be determined, then Palayamkottai should qualify to be so called.

English, as a language has two parts- the written part and the spoken part. At Palayamkottai terrific emphasis is laid on grammar and without being able to locate an issue on English grammar in WREN & MARTIN within the next 10 seconds would make one an idiot in English. But the problem was that , at Palayamkottai none could frame a sentence in English without making it a grammatical example of how a sentence ought to be. Yet when they articulated the sentence, it would sound as if an African tribal was mouthing English words in an American movie!

So armed with my spoken English like an AFRICAN TRIBAL, i entered the hallowed precincts of CAMPION at TRICHY. All the boys were neatly dressed in tie, belt and shoes with the former two carrying the emblem of the school. None was allowed to loosen the tie nor be found slovenly clad. The punishment was frog jump the entire ground- and it was not easy with all that heat and dust in Trichy.

I had never met any ANGLO INDIAN in Tirunelveli. So after entering the class room i found that more than 30 % of the students were persons having a complexion different from the natives. Most of them were fair with a foreign tinge, some even freckled. After i took my seat, a guy from the bench behind asked, “What the f##k is yr name, man?” and i kept quiet. The class was over and this guy taps me on my shoulder and asks me, “what the f@$k is your name man?” I said, “My f&*ing name IS ————” From my Tirunelveli accent and name  he found out that i was a native christian. So he said, “Come to the parlour. I wanna show you something. ”

It was recess and he took me to the lounge in front of the school office and told me to read and find out what those words around the emblem of the school meant. It was CUR HIC STATIS.

I said i couldn’t figure out the meaning. He said, there are 2 meanings one for the Anglo Indians and the other for the natives. For the Natives it meant, DOG, YOU HERE? and for the Anglo Indians WHY ARE YOU HERE? He went on to tell me that the natives have no business to study in Anglo Indian Schools. His name was JUDE PABERNETHY. He introduced himself and said that the “P” in his surname was silent and that i should call him Jude.

I went back and read the school Hand book to find out the meaning of the three words CUR HIC STATIS. There it was, WHY DO YOU STAND HERE? It sounded odd. I had studied in more than 10 schools and none of the schools had a question for its “motto”- all were RISE & SHINE, SERVE & OBSERVE, COURAGE & FAITH etc. etc. This question was quite perplexing and at that age (atleast my mental age) CUR HIC STATIS made no apparent sense.

Later on  i became friendly with a Hindu student from the same class who clarified that the Anglo Indians hated “us” and thought we were spoiling their European culture. Yet the import of what Rajan said was not grasped fully by me. He went on to add that the “CUR” in our motto was interpreted, by some fanatic Anglos, to mean DOGS referring to Indian students. I felt bad- helplessly bad.

Years later when i was passing by RIPON BUILDINGS at Madras, i asked my dad, why should they have the statue of Ripon when India had gained Independence and was no more under the yoke of the British? He said (he was a student of History in college) there was a bill, introduced and made a law by a Viceroy, called the ILBERT BILL, where a European defendant, in a criminal case, could be tried by an Indian Judge/magistrate. THAT VICEROY WAS LORD RIPON. He was a product of the LIBERALISM which was sweeping the political climate in England. Therefore Lord Ripon was one person, who though was a Britisher, lay emphasis on HUMANISM and brought equality between the European Judges and the Indian judges. So as a mark of homage to his large heartedness, RIPON’s statue was retained.

When i took to reading History myself, i discovered that Lord Ripon’s stay as Viceroy was cut short by the opinion back in London, where Duke of Connaught (one of the sons of Queen Victoria) is supposed to have said that Lord Ripon was the biggest fool in Asia and thereby hastened RIPON’S exit. The Tories won and brought a new VICEROY to India.

His replacement was CURZON! Son of a CUR. And i had come a full circle. One of the roads radiating from INDIA GATE at New DELHI was earlier called CURZON ROAD. Curzon was responsible for the shift of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi and Lutyens Delhi was his concept, yet within a few years of the Britishers leaving India, the road – CURZON road, was renamed KASTURBA GANDHI MARG. We needed gender equality- Ashoka, Akbar, Shah Jahan, Raj Path, Tilak, Purana Qila, Copernicus etc. but no woman- and we renamed CURZON ROAD and eliminated his day to day memory!

I understood the meaning interpreted by Jude Pabernethy, many years back at the CAMPION. Our opinion colours our perception. We remember for years the slights heaped on us and take reparative reprisals decades after the injuries were suffered. My resentment at Jude’s statement vanished, years after they were inflicted!
